The first capital of Brazil had a visible African influence in its culture. It is a captivating mixture of indigenous, Portuguese, African and Brazilian people, famous for its colonial heart of churches and streets of stones, Capoeira [martial art] and Candomblé [religion]. Salvador has an intense calendar of popular events such as the Carnival and religious celebrations. “Pelourinho”, the historic center of Salvador, was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
